What Bible widget apps actually cost — and why the store page won't tell you

The thing almost nobody notices
Google Play does not publish an app's monthly or yearly subscription price on the listing. It publishes a range covering every in-app purchase the app offers — subscriptions of different lengths, one-off unlocks, tip jars, everything mixed together.
One widget-first Bible app shows $14.99–$169.99. That is an eleven-fold spread. It tells you nothing about what you would pay.

Why the number matters more than it looks
Subscription length is where the money quietly multiplies:

Monthly ($4.99–$14.99/month)
Predictable, and usually cancellable at the end of any period.
Yearly ($39.99–$69.99/year)
Almost always the cheapest per month — roughly $3.33–$5.83.
Free, no ads
$0. DailyVerses and YouVersion offer a widget with no ads and no purchases. If cost is your only concern, this row wins and there is nothing to decide.
How to find the real price before you pay
Open the subscribe screen, then read the line under the price. It must state the amount and the period, in the same view as the button. If it says "3 days free" without stating what happens on day four, close it.
Check the period word. "week" is the one people miss. Weekly trials that convert to weekly billing are legal and common.
Find the cancel path before you need it. Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in the Play Store, not inside the app: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. If an app makes cancelling hard, that tells you something.
Decide what you are paying for. On this list, paying removes ads and, in some apps, unlocks extra widget styles. It does not unlock the Bible text — that is free either way.

The short version
Ignore the range on the Play listing. It is not a price.
The number that matters is price × period — and weekly is where it hurts.
If you want free and ad-free, DailyVerses and YouVersion already do that. There is no gap in the market for "just free".
Everything else on this list is selling convenience: styling, themes, no ads. Judge it on that.
